Multipurpose Vacuum Excavators
Vacuum Excavation or Non- Destructive Digging as it is also known, is extremely versatile. Not only can it be used to locate and uncover underground utilities; Pot Holing; Trenching; Pipe Jet Rodding; House Re- Stumping; Swimming Pool Excavation to name just a few, but it can also be used to help improve a declining tree’s overall health and chances of survival.
Using Vacuum Excavation to work with trees
Vacuum Excavation and tree work go hand in hand. It can be a very useful tool for an Arborist to be able to dig quickly, accurately, and efficiently while also having the assurance that the tree roots will not be harmed in the process. Growing in a hot climate such as Brisbane, Australia, often results in trees being surrounded by hard, impacted soil where enough water cannot penetrate the roots to deliver the required nutrients or unhealthy gases become trapped in the top soil. Vacuum Excavation can be used to easily dig trenches to insert a Root Barrier or for Deep Root Aeration.
Deep Root Aeration and Vacuum Excavations in Brisbane
Deep Root Aeration is also known as Vertical Mulching and is a technique used by Arborists to address the common problem of compacted soils. Deep Root Aeration is the practice of digging holes in the compacted soil and then backfilling with an organic matter. This practice has been proven to be highly effective in lessening a tree’s visible signs of stress. Using the high-powered Vacuum Excavator wand to penetrate the hard and impacted soil with water instead of manual digging, saves time and the physical impact of hard, manual labour.
- Using the tree’s canopy as a guide, the holes are dug approximately 1- 1.5 metres apart at a depth of 750 ml.
- Once the hole is excavated to the required depth then the Vacuum Excavator hose will suck the muddy water back to the Vacuum tank to be disposed of later.
- The Vacuum Excavator Operator/Arborist is then able to backfill the holes with a substance that is optimum for drainage and allowing the water to filter into the root plate such as river gravel. This allows future rainwater/ moisture to penetrate tree roots much more easily and encourage tree health.
